Islamorada Florida is near and dear to my heart. My husband, Andy, and I were married on the beach at the beautiful Cheeca Lodge there almost 25 years ago. It’s still a favorite place for us to visit when we want to relax, enjoy the warm ocean waters, sip tropical drinks, and live the island life. It was the perfect place to find inspiration for one of our new fabric collections. Located in the Florida Keys, a chain of islands on the southern tip of the state, Islamorada is home to world class fishing and diving and some extraordinary waterfront resorts. The narrow islands boast breathtaking sunrises and melt-your-heart sunsets. It’s the kind of place where laying in a hammock while the soft, warm breezes waft by is a full-time job.
The color scheme is bright and bold just like the tropical flowers and sea life that are common in the area. Several of our prints are directly inspired by the ocean like Seaweed, Fish Scale, and Sea Fan. Even “Conch” is inspired by the shape of the end of the conch shell. It also pays homage to the brief moment in history when the Florida Keys succeeded from the US and declared themselves the Conch Republic in the 1980’s. Other prints take their cues from the Islamorada’s unique personality. Like the rest of the Keys, flip flops are the standard footwear for every occasion. We channeled the flip-flop lifestyle for our fun and funky print aptly named “Flip Flops.” The lush tropical foliage was also a great place to find pretty patterns in our Windley and Dracaena prints. You can see all of our patterns over on our fabric page or create your own Resort at Home by purchasing finished pillows, placemats and napkins from our Etsy site.
